Vaughn L. Roland

has always had a passion for two things: the arts and people. What better way to do that than combining the two in efforts to bring truth to power through design? As the youngest son of a college professor and baptist pastor (Original Providence Baptist Church, Chicago’s second oldest African American Baptist church started by ex-slaves). Both lifelong believers and social equality warriors who set the foundation for the important work Vaughn is currently tasked with and that in which he seeks to accomplish. His vision of the future aligns with that of Martin Luther King Jr., who spoke about an idea of the “beloved community.” rooted in equity, unity and a sense of togetherness in a common set of values which weave the fabric of our very society and humanity as a whole. He believes every being should serve as beacons of light, hope and change all throughout their human experience. I Came From Slaves is seeking to do just that.
